Evolution of Charger-Specific Standards
In the past, there were no dedicated standards for chargers. The European Union (EU) typically adopted EN60950 as the standard, while the United States (US) used UL60950. However, 60950 is essentially a power adapter standard, not specifically designed for chargers. Due to the absence of a dedicated standard, many manufacturers followed the 60950 adapter standard.
Now, both the EU and the US have introduced new charger standards. The EU has divided charger standards into two categories:
Chargers below 42V comply with EN60335-2-29;
Chargers of 42V and above comply with EN60335-1.
In the US, UL1012 is now the unified standard for chargers.
Charger Certification Process
The testing requirements for chargers in the EU and US are largely similar. Taking our UL1012-certified charger as an example, we applied for certification within the 400W power range, covering different types of battery chargers:
Ternary lithium battery chargers: 1-20 series, 4.2V-84V;
Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery chargers: 1-20 series, 3.65V-73V;
Lead-acid battery chargers: 1-6 series, 14.6V-87V.
During the certification process, each battery series requires two sets of samples for testing, totaling nearly 100 battery sets. Additionally, up to 60 charger samples are needed for random testing.
Advantages of Our 400W Charger
Our 400W charger offers the following benefits:
Operating temperature range: -29℃—50℃;
Fully enclosed, fanless design;
High conversion efficiency of up to 95%;
Power factor correction (PFC) >0.95;
Pure PC plastic housing with double insulation;
Classified as Class II power supply, requiring no grounding;
Lifespan of up to 30,000 hours;
3-year warranty, ensuring safety and reliability.
Comparison with Traditional Fan-Cooled Chargers
In contrast, traditional fan-cooled 400W chargers have several drawbacks:
Lower conversion efficiency, reaching only up to 85%;
Severe heat generation, requiring fan cooling;
Short fan lifespan of only 2,000-3,000 hours, directly affecting the charger’s lifespan;
Gaps in the fan design allow dust and moisture to enter, increasing the risk of short circuits;
Metal housing classified as Class I power supply, requiring grounding, with lower safety and reliability.
Value of Certification
Our 400W charger has successfully obtained specialized charger certification in both the EU and the US. The certification process is costly, with certification fees alone exceeding 500,000 RMB, and the testing period is lengthy. Thus, obtaining an authoritative certification is highly challenging and valuable.
We welcome inquiries and verification of our certificates.
